Radon Gas Testing & Mitigation in the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier NY & Northern PA

Certified Radon Professionals Serving the Finger Lakes & Northern PA

NextGen Environmental provides professional radon testing and mitigation services throughout the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier of New York, and Northern Pennsylvania. Our team is NRPP Certified and New York State Certified, ensuring all radon systems are installed according to EPA and ANSI/AARST standards for safe and effective radon reduction.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that forms in soil and rock and can enter homes through cracks in foundations, slab floors, sump pits, and other openings. It is colorless and odorless, meaning it cannot be detected without proper testing. Elevated radon levels are common throughout the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier of New York as well as Northern Pennsylvania, and long-term exposure is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, according to the EPA.

Because radon can affect both new and older homes — with or without basements — the EPA and U.S. Surgeon General recommend that all homes be tested. At NextGen Environmental, our certified radon professionals provide accurate radon testing and professionally designed mitigation systems to safely reduce radon levels and protect your home and family.

If you are buying a home, have never tested for radon, or recently received a high test result, our team can help you understand the problem and provide a reliable solution.

We Proudly serve homeowners throughout Elmira, Corning, Horseheads, Ithaca, Watkins Glen, Binghamton, and surrounding communities in the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier, and Northern Pennsylvania.

“Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers and the second leading cause of lung cancer for the general population. The Surgeon General and EPA recommend testing for radon and reducing radon in homes that have high levels. Fix your home if your radon level is confirmed to be 4 picocuries per liter, pCi/L, or higher. Radon levels less than 4 pCi/L still pose a risk, and in many cases may be reduced. If you smoke and your home has high radon levels, your risk of lung cancer is especially high.” -EPA

Health Risks of Radon Gas in Homes

Radon gas can enter a home through many openings in the foundation and building structure. These entry points allow radon from the soil beneath the home to move into living spaces,

  • Cracks in foundation walls and concrete floor slabs
  • Construction joints in poured concrete foundations
  • Gaps around plumbing and utility penetrations
  • Sump pits and drainage systems
  • Floor drains and crawlspace soil floors
  • Support posts and structural penetrations
  • Window wells and basement windows
  • Gaps around service pipes and electrical conduits

How Radon Mitigation Systems Work

Radon mitigation systems reduce radon levels by safely venting radon gas from beneath the foundation before it can enter your home. The most common system used is called Active Soil Depressurization (ASD).

A small suction point is created in the basement floor or crawlspace and connected to PVC piping. A specialized radon fan continuously pulls radon gas from beneath the foundation and vents it safely above the roofline.

When properly designed and installed, radon mitigation systems can reduce radon levels by up to 99% and bring most homes below the EPA recommended action level.

At NextGen Environmental, our certified radon professionals design systems specific to your home to ensure reliable, long-term radon reduction.

Most radon mitigation systems can be installed in one day and are often comparable in cost to other common home repairs

At NextGen Environmental, our NRPP-certified and New York State certified radon professionals design mitigation systems specific to your home to ensure reliable, long-term radon reduction.

The resulting space can also provide additional room for storage beneath your home.
